Selection Weekend
As part of the application process to go to Tanzania, we have a selection weekend. This is effectively a trial run to see how everyone gets along. In order to be selected you have to be involved with as much as you can as often as you can. There is a lot of hard work to do in Tanzania and everyone who is selected has to prove they are able and willing to do it.
The selection weekend is usually at Low Gillerthwaite Field Center, we spend the weekend working on the grounds, cooking as groups, working on fundraising ideas, learning KiSwahili and much more.

Preperation Weekend
The preparation weekend is for the group chosen at the selection weekend. It is usually held at one of the local outdoor centres. This is a real taste of Tanzania and it’s also where we all figure out what we need to take, what we want to get out of the trip and write the group contact. The group contract is extremely important and is written from scratch every exchange. It’s a chance for everyone to decide what is and isn’t acceptable and what should happen if people are having problems or something goes wrong.
The weekend is also a lot of fun with more games, outdoor activities, learning KiSwahili, and a chance for everyone to really get to know each other.
