Team Building

When in Cumbria it is important that our groups work as a team but when in Tanzania working together and getting along is essential for a successful and fun visit! Link members get to know each other through all of our activities, but we also have lots of specialised team building days and residentials to help us along the way.

Team Building Days

We have team building days run in the past by Mobex but now by the Whitehaven Harbour Youth Project. These days are loads of fun, we spend the whole day outside either in a forest or on the beach playing games and solving physical group problems. Some classic problems include walking the planks (pictured right) and moving a barrel using only two lengths of rope and without touching it...?

Selection Weekend

As part of the application process to go to Tanzania, we have a selection weekend. This is effectively a trial run to see how everyone gets along. In order to be selected you have to be involved with as much as you can as often as you can. There is a lot of hard work to do in Tanzania and everyone who is selected has to prove they are able and willing to do it.

The selection weekend is usually at Low Gillerthwaite Field Center, we spend the weekend working on the grounds, cooking as groups, working on fundraising ideas, learning KiSwahili and much more.

Preperation Weekend

The preparation weekend is for the group chosen at the selection weekend. It is usually held at one of the local outdoor centres. This is a real taste of Tanzania and it’s also where we all figure out what we need to take, what we want to get out of the trip and write the group contact. The group contract is extremely important and is written from scratch every exchange. It’s a chance for everyone to decide what is and isn’t acceptable and what should happen if people are having problems or something goes wrong.

The weekend is also a lot of fun with more games, outdoor activities, learning KiSwahili, and a chance for everyone to really get to know each other.
